Non-Professional Theatre Doesn’t Have to Be Low Quality.
Through productions, teen and kids classes and coaching, and our generous and visionary sponsors, we challenge the assumption that non-professional theatre cannot be excellent and foster the character and drive of local artists to create high-quality theatre in Kansas City.
You know the feeling…
Sitting through a local non-professional show and thinking it would never end
Yawning through your child’s musical showcase
Feeling embarrassed to invite your friends and family to the local production you’re in because it…kind of sucks
Dealing with massive egos from subpar actors and musicians that makes you want to quit your passion
We get it - while the non-professional theatre scene can offer many opportunities to the community, it’s often at the expense of care and excellence - both in quality of performances and the character of those putting on a show.
Whether you’re an artist (or the parent of one) or an audience member, the desire to support and participate in local theatre - one of the oldest and most important forms of storytelling - and the reality of not finding places that challenge and inspire are often very conflicting.
